Automation Specialist

Your mission

As an Automation Specialist within the newly established Business Excellence team at Hiab in Gdansk, your mission is to design, develop and implement automation and digital productivity solutions that eliminate manual work, improve data quality and enhance the efficiency of business processes. In this role, you will utilize a combination of robotic process automation (RPA), scripting (VBA, Python, Google Apps Script) and workflow automation. By leveraging modern tools such as AI, data visualization and cloud-based platforms like Google Workspace, you will bridge the gap between complex business needs and innovative technology to drive organizational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate business processes for automation potential and conduct feasibility studies for AI/automation solutions.
• Build robust solutions using a mix of Python, VBA, Google Apps Script, and RPA tools.
• Connect platforms like SAP and web applications to Google tools to ensure seamless data flow and reduce manual entry.
• Develop AI-enabled tools (e.g., document processing, chatbots) to boost user productivity and decision-making.
• Create dashboards and visualizations to provide transparency and performance insights for business users.
• Monitor deployed automations, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure long-term scalability and reliability.
• Create detailed technical documentation (SOPs, workflow diagrams) and lead internal training sessions for end-users.
• Ensure all solutions meet data privacy, security standards, and internal Hiab/Cargotec requirements.

What we are looking for

• Strong proficiency in Python, Google Apps Script, and VBA is essential. Knowledge of JavaScript and SQL is a significant advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Proven track record in leading the design and deployment of RPA/Scripting/AI solutions with measurable efficiency gains.
• Solid understanding of RPA platforms and cloud-based environments (Google Workspace). 
• A logical mindset with the ability to translate complex business needs into technical requirements.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is obligatory for daily collaboration.
• A proactive approach to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest AI and automation trends.
• Occasional travel to other Hiab locations may be required.
