VAT Specialist

Purpose of the position

At Hiab, we’re looking for a VAT Specialist to play an essential role in ensuring accurate and compliant VAT processes across our international operations. You’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative finance team where openness, respect, and diversity define the way we work. This is a maternity cover position, offering you the chance to make a meaningful contribution. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Review processed VAT documents and assess the accuracy of VAT treatment

• Prepare reconciliations for VAT general ledger accounts

• Support the Team Lead in analyzing end-to-end transaction flows and provide recommendations for process improvements from an indirect tax perspective

• Extract, validate, and prepare financial data for EC Sales Lists and Intrastat

• Prepare ad-hoc reports and ensure data accuracy across systems

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of Intrastat/ECSL/VAT data quality within the ERP system

• Support process transitions through knowledge transfer and work shadowing activities

What you’ll need to succeed

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline

• 2–4 years of experience in accounting or tax-related roles

• Strong understanding of international indirect taxation, particularly EU VAT legislation

• Working knowledge of SAP is an advantage

• Experience in managing and interpreting simple to moderately complex data queries

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

• A proactive mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for process improvement

• Fluent English, both written and spoken
