Senior Data Scientist

Your mission

As a Senior Data Scientist at Hiab, you will be responsible for developing our advanced analytics and AI capabilities as a part of the predictive maintenance team. In 2026, our equipment isn't just connected - it’s intelligent. You will transform high-frequency, multidimensional sensor data into digital services that predict maintenance needs, optimize fuel efficiency, and enhance operator safety.

You will work within our IoT and Cloud team, moving models from notebooks into production environments. Your key tasks would include working on machine-type specific calculations and data quality improvements. Your work would also include customer projects to deliver specific business outcomes, training people, researching learning models, and algorithm development contributing to our connected products and services. This role is about high-impact engineering: bringing sophisticated math to the "heavy lifting" world.

This position is based in Tampere, Finland.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of advanced analytics and performance calculations for one of our specific device Divisions. You will be the primary technical partner for that division, ensuring their unique telemetry data translates into actionable customer value
• Design, develop, and maintain advanced ML models using Python, scikit-learn, and Tensorflow
• Analyze and model complex, multidimensional sensor data from our global fleet to unlock predictive lifecycle insights
• Build and manage data workflows using Airflow and BigQuery, utilizing Cloud Run for scalable model deployment
• Lead the discussion with our key decision-makers to concretize the possibilities of advanced analytics, AI and machine learning
• Implement statistical, mathematical or other relevant methodologies for models, analysis, and data visualization
• Lead/contribute the initiative to improve data quality and implement a robust data governance model.

The Tech Stack

• Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Run), Airflow for orchestration

• Python (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, statsmodels), SQL, and Docker

• Modern Productivity (Beneficial): We value candidates who leverage AI-enhanced development tools, TypeScript/JavaScript, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or AWS CDK)

• Bonus: Experience with Snowflake or AWS (Step Functions, Batch Jobs, CodePipeline) is highly regarded.

What we are looking for

• A Master’s or Doctorate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
• 5+ years of professional experience working with multidimensional time-series data. You should be comfortable handling the noise and nuances of physical sensor telemetry
• 5+ years of proven track record of putting analytics into production. You don't just build models; you ship products that stay up and perform at scale
• Solid hands-on experience on machine learning libraries, deep learning and neural networks to build out tailored data-driven solutions and products in-house
• Experienced with cloud (services) architecture and skills with the most common cloud-based data processing, data management and big data components on Google. Experience with AWS will be a big plus
• Background and results in data mining, analytics, and statistical analysis
• Proven track record in designing data-driven solutions to complex business issues by applying advanced analytical methods to structured or unstructured data
• Knowledge in common SW development methodology and in modern version control mechanisms (DevOps, CI/CD)
• Experience in building and implementing data governance models
• Experience working specifically with digital products or services is a significant advantage
• Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English. Finnish language would be an advantage.
